It's fitting that this Russian grocery sits smack dab in the middle of Brighton Beach, home to New York City's—and in fact, the entire nation's—largest Russian-speaking population. Here, you'll not only find authentic Russian vittles, from cabbage and meat-stuffed piroshki to smoked fish to hearty weisswurst, at prices you'll be hard-pressed to find of nearly anywhere else in the city. There's also an expansive cheese selection and a wide variety of Russian sweets, as well as kvass, a fermented drink made from rye bread.
