The Greek Ouzerie & Taverna

Description

The Greek is on an obscure TriBeCa block—even for seasoned downtowners—which means it's a true neighborhood restaurant and has to be good to survive since people outside the area would rarely stumble on it. The dark taverna is like a wine cave, with wooden barrels helping frame the bar, and exudes vibrant energy, some perhaps due to ouzo, the rest to martinis and the all-Greek wine list. When you're ready to start eating, get a selection of classic spreads with golden pita strips, delicious spinach and feta pies and kasseri-cheese-stuffed beef. Or just let a well-versed waiter decide it all for you. It's all excellent and easily shared family style.
