Pilar Cuban Eatery

Description

Cuban food aficionados take note: Pilar’s menu belies the tiny size of this Bed-Stuy restaurant. Alongside meat-heavy favorites such as ropa vieja, pernil and Cuban sandwiches, there is also an unlikely array of vegetarian options: soups, croquettes and empanadas, which are baked on the premises. Pilar has an intimate, at-home feel—it's owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team—and though dishes don't necessarily arrive with corporate efficiency, they are well worth the wait. The specials change daily, so if you have your heart set on something in particular, it’s worth calling ahead to check if it's being served.
