Patisserie Chanson
Description
Even those who think they’ve had their fill of European patisseries will marvel at the elegant and delicious offerings found in this Flatiron café. Chef-owner Rory Macdonald has a love for French baking, one made apparent by the attention to detail given to every item on the menu. While light fare is available in the daytime—freshly made baguettes, croissants, salads and sandwiches—it is the flawless desserts that really shine here. There’s kouign-amanns in a variety of flavors, macarons, bonbons and a selection of cakes so artfully presented they’re Instagram ready. Come for tea between 3 and 6pm, or visit at night after you’ve dined elsewhere. That’s when the subterranean level turns into a reservations-only dessert bar where you can sample a four- or eight-course menu, with an option of pairing with the perfect drinks.
