Okonomi

Description

There’s no lack of brunch spots in Williamsburg, but Okonomi avoids the New American trend that pervades the neighborhood. Chefs Yuji Haraguchi and Tara Norvell—formerly of Bushwick pizza favorite Roberta’s and Smorgasburg fame—offer a daily Japanese breakfast that features an assortment of small plates like rice, miso soup, seasonal vegetables and fish such as mackerel, sea bass and perch. Round out the dish with the addition of onsen tamago (the phrase literally translates to “hot springs eggs,” a reference to the temperature of the water in which it’s prepared). After 3pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends, the restaurant turns into a ramen hot spot with dishes that take their flavor from locally sourced seafood and vegetables.
