Nordic Preserves, Fish & Wildlife

Description

A compressed, Scandinavian version of Russ & Daughters is wedged into the Essex Street Market, a stimulating food hall that knits together Latin purveyors, Heritage Meat Shop, Pain D'Avignon breads, Roni-Sue's Chocolates, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Brooklyn Taco Company and Shopshin's General Store. For food lovers, it's heaven under one roof. Nordic Preserves excels at pickled herring, potato salad, bagels with smoked salmon, cardamom cake and malty chocolate balls coated in crunchy oats. For such a small space it's amazing how many Scandinavian pantry staples they've managed to stock, from beans to grapefruit marmalade, without seeming one bit cluttered.
