Monte's

Description

The self-described "oldest Italian restaurant in Brooklyn" first opened in 1906, back when Gowanus was a lively industrial and residential neighborhood. In the interim, the restaurant survived Prohibition, hosted Frank Sinatra and changed its name several times. But the spot's traditional methods for preparing Italian favorites like coal-oven pizzas, pastas and salumi, have remained unchanged for nearly 100 years.
