Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong

Out of Business

Description

With Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong, Korean barbecue has really arrived in Koreatown. Successful outposts in Seoul, Honolulu, Los Angeles and Flushing created an early buzz, and on this Manhattan flagship's opening in late 2014, it was an immediate sensation, with lines out the door. Families and groups of friends gather around tables inlaid with grills, cooking up beef and pork combos and drinking creative soju cocktails. There are also tons of spicy vegetables, dumplings, stir-fried squid, tofu, noodles and kimchi stew. The chain got its start in South Korea, where Kang Ho Dong is a famous comedian, emcee and former wrestler. Comic images of him are omnipresent but, given the crowds, he must be no dummy.
