Haenyeo

Description

This pretty Korean bistro illuminates a corner of Park Slope. Restaurateur Jenny Kwak, along with her mother, ran the now-shuttered Do Hwa and Dok Suni in Manhattan, pioneering places that reached out to Westerners. Haenyeo refers to the Korean women divers who harvest shellfish without wearing oxygen masks. Fittingly, the grilled oysters and spicy bouillabaisse here are wonderful. So are mung bean kimchi pancakes, tender pork ribs and knobs of fried jalapeño chicken. Kwak’s mother, Myung Ja Kwak, has retired but still pickles the kimchi.
