El Rey Coffee Bar & Luncheonette

Out of Business

Description

Don't let the modest name of this Lower East Side cafe and eatery lead you astray; though simplicity reigns supreme here, so too does innovation and vision. This understatedly sleek, neatly appointed coffeehouse serves an array of dishes that add a vibrant twist to Mexi-Cali cuisine. Vegan chicharrónes, papas bravas in a pickled pineapple hot sauce, marinated chorizo with an orange zest and green mole burrata are just a few of the dishes on offer, which come beautifully presented on the plate (or more often, in the bowl). While the food has made this a destination for LES crowds, java lovers shouldn't miss the coffee, which is also a standout.
