Dear Bushwick

Out of Business

Description

Roberta's, Bushwick's most noteworthy destination, is always jammed, so it's nice to have an alternative nearby. Dear Bushwick is loaded with charm and calls itself an "English country kitchen." It's far more than a pub, with excellent cocktails as well as craft beer. The British-themed food is modern, inventive and very personal, which calls to mind the East Village's Prune. Funny enough, chef Jessica Wilson is a Prune vet. Look for fried potato peels with sea salt and vinegar, farmhouse capon terrine, seared porgy and wild duck accompanied by vegetables in season. The design has a singular touch as well. A series of old, chipped-paint window shutters line the lower walls in lieu of wainscoting. Grandma-type knickknacks and thrift shop portraits of blue bloods and English country life adorn the walls.
