Cornelia Street Cafe

Out of Business

Description

Founded by three artists who built it with their own hands, the cafe opened on July 4, 1977, and has long since become an iconic Greenwich Village destination for fine food and cabaret. Weather-permitting, patrons enjoy brunch, lunch and dinner outdoors under the signature striped red-and-white awning or drinks at the tiny bar. Jazz, poetry, readings and talks are presented in the downstairs cabaret. In cold weather, the fireplace is lit. Three rooms are available for private parties. Celebrating the cafe's 10th anniversary, Mayor Edward Koch proclaimed that it is "a culinary as well as a cultural landmark."
