Bobwhite Lunch & Supper Counter

Description

For Southerners, here's a taste of home. Unimpeachable fried chicken, pimento cheese sandwiches, buttermilk biscuits and black-eyed peas capture the soul of country cooking. Owner Keedick Coulter hails from Virginia, the state that produced Edna Lewis, whose iconic cookbook The Taste of Country Cooking honors uncomplicated, flavorful food and the maxim, "What grows together goes together." That formula materializes here, where vegetable sides are seasonal and you'll never see a tomato unless it's ripe for picking. Bobwhite is nothing fancy concerning accoutrements: some high-top tables that can be pushed together, a few stools at the bar, ordering done at the counter. But the price is right, the beer is cold, and the walk to and from Avenue C will help burn off calories.
