Shakespeare Garden, Central Park

Description

This four-acre oasis in Central Park, modeled after Victorian-era rock gardens, is a resplendent tribute to the Bard. Dedicated to Shakespeare in 1916 to mark the 300th anniversary of his death, and remodeled in the 1970s and ’80s, the garden limits its flowers to those mentioned in his plays (which is hardly limiting). It’s a marvelous place to stroll or sit and take in whatever happens to be blooming—crocuses in March, tulips in May, roses later in the year.
