Description
What is that swooping, silver sculptural monument located next to the Whitehall Ferry Terminal in Lower Manhattan? Is it a bird? A plane? Close—it's the New Amsterdam Plein & Pavilion, a 5,000 square-foot "outdoor living room," complete with tables, chairs, a food court, an information booth, softly curving walls and an LED-covered exterior. Envisioned as a public center for tourists and ferry commuters, the pavilion was a 2009 gift from the Netherlands.
