In a true nod to not judging a book by its cover, the scene behind this Chelsea joint's nondescript front doors is quite a pleasant surprise: a warmly-lit wraparound bar, quaint, candlelit cocktail tables and a back fireplace surrounded by mod furniture and a unique faux skylight. On any given night, DJs spin a mix of Afro-beats, underground hip-hop and jazz, adding to the romantic ambiance. And if the room whispers romance, the menu screams comfort, including Louisiana gumbo, baby back ribs and a mouthwatering toasted strawberry shortcake.
