The Long Island Bar

Description

Originally known as Long Island Bar & Restaurant, this institution was in operation since the 1950s as a haunt for longshoremen coming off work and looking for a place to kick back with a drink. The original owners—Emma Sullivan and her cousins Pepita and Maruja Fernandez—ran the local art deco eatery until the early 2000s, when it shut down. In 2013 partners Toby Cecchini and Joel Tompkins took over, transforming it into a more upscale bar and restaurant while maintaining the charm and old-world integrity that the space was known for—including the large neon sign out front. The small menu consists of cocktails, wine, beer and some small plates and platters for dinner.
