The Garret East

Description

Unlike at the original, you won’t have to awkwardly pace back and forth in front of any amused patty flippers to find this Avenue A outpost of above-Five-Guys speakeasy the Garret. Here, a simple black awning printed with the bar's wiley racoon mascot, Rocco, invites you into the long, narrow den, fitted with whitewashed brick, mother-of-pearl-accented walls and original pieces by street artist Bradley Theodore and illustrator Jimmy Thompson. Behind the cold-rolled steel-topped bar, Grant Wheeler (the Garret, Dullboy) serves whimsically-named cocktails like a Scandinavian-inflected, Ikea-winking Cheap Furniture, mixing malted Nordic aquavit and spicy Swedish glogg, and a brightly-hued the Green Monstah, built with two kinds of tropical cachaça, matcha and sweet-potato liqueur in a tea cup. Also on the menu are bottled cocktails (Moscow Mules, gin and tonics), French biodynamic wines and craft beers, including a can of Japanese Orion lager dressed up with smoked salt, sriracha and yuzu.
