Staten Island Museum at St. George

Out of Business

Description

Closes June 18, 2017. Located just two blocks away from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, this museum showcases artifacts and art that reflects the history and people of this fascinating New York City borough and a large natural science exhibit—culled from the collections of local naturalists—that includes amphibians, shells, fossils, rocks, bird eggs and more. There’s also a fun exhibit of all things ferry-related, rotating special shows, like a collection of “green” art by local artists passionate about the environment and sustainable living, and a collection of classic Egyptian, Greek and Roman art. The museum has expanded its offerings, opening a LEED certified location inside of a historical 19th-century landmarked structure in September 2015, known as the Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor.
