Dare Devil Tattoo Shop and Museum
Description
Daredevil opened in 1997 when tattooing was legalized in NYC. Located on the border of the Lower East Side and Chinatown, Daredevil is only a few blocks from Chatham Square, where modern tattooing was invented with the first electric tattoo machine patents. The Museum pays tribute to this history with a collection of tattoo artifacts spanning the last hundred years, including pieces from Charlie Wagner (who worked on the Bowery from the 1890s until 1953), "Cap" Coleman, Percy Waters, Stoney Sinclair and many others. The collection also includes original tattoo-related sideshow banners and a Victorian tattooed lady circus poster.
