Javits: Transportation Overview
The Javits Center is located in Manhattan, near many of the borough's westside neighborhoods: Hell’s Kitchen, Midtown West, Hudson Yards and Chelsea.
Although the Javits Center’s official address is 429 Eleventh Avenue, the building is massive and spans five city blocks, stretching from West 34th Street—the area of the convention center known as the Crystal Palace—up to 39th Street, where the new expansion building, North Javits, is located.
Depending on the size and exact location of your event, the best entrance for you may be located anywhere along this strip, but the transportation options below will get you to the building.
Unless you are staying at one of the growing number of hotels in the area immediately surrounding Javits and walking over, or using a shuttle organized by your event from your hotel, there are three ways to get to the center by public transit: subway, bus or taxi/rideshare.
Getting to Javits by Subway
The easiest way to get to the Javits Center is via the 7 train to the 34th-Hudson Yards Station. The convention center is just one block away! This beautiful station, which opened in 2015, made Javits much more accessible to all areas of the City. Forget hiking to your hotel or fighting traffic. Now your biggest decision will be where to go rather than how to get there. This extension of the 7 train, one of the only crosstown lines, connects to every line that runs through Manhattan. Attendees are now able to travel from the west side of Manhattan to Times Square hotels and restaurants in little more than five minutes.
Getting to Javits by Bus
If aboveground travel is more your speed, easy access to the Javits Center is available via the M34-SBS bus, which runs east to west along 34th Street in Manhattan. (Note: do not take the M34A-SBS; the latter turns at Eighth Avenue.) The M34-SBS stops along 34th Street just before reaching Eleventh Avenue next to Bella Abzug Park, as well as on Eleventh Avenue between 33rd and 34th Streets. Both stops are about equidistant from the entrance to the Javits Center.
The M34-SBS bus provides an easy connection from any subway line that stops at 34th Street on either the east or west side. The bus fare can be prepaid via MetroCard at one of the payment kiosks located at the bus stop, or by tapping a contactless card/smart device on the readers inside the bus. Make sure to retain proof of payment; MTA officials do conduct regular checks to ensure that all riders have paid the fare, so hold on to that printed/digital receipt to avoid a fine.
Getting to Javits by Taxi or Rideshare
The City’s fleet of taxicabs is regulated by the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC). Taxicabs operate 24 hours per day, provide door-to-door service and accept cash or credit cards. To hail a taxi, stand at the curb and look for a yellow cab with an illuminated white number on top. Off-duty cabs display the illuminated words “Off Duty” on the same sign. Board and exit the cab curbside. Your driver will know where the Javits Center is, but in case they’re not sure, simply tell them to take you to West 35th Street and Eleventh Avenue. There are usually plenty of taxis traveling down Eleventh Avenue so catching one when leaving your show should not involve too much of a wait.
For yellow or green taxis, there is a minimum meter fare of $3, and prices increase based on the distance and duration of the trip (assume prices are higher during peak rush-hour traffic). Surcharges apply to the meter price. Drivers appreciate a 15 to 20 percent gratuity at the end of a trip. Bridge and tunnel tolls are not included in the taxi’s metered fare.
Uber and Lyft are also very popular options in NYC and drivers are never more than a few minutes away. Fares in general are comparable to taxis, but rideshares are subject to surge pricing so the rates can fluctuate quite a bit. Simply input "Javits Center" as your destination. If your event is in the new north building, "Javits North" will get you to the right place.
